Our team recently completed a roofing project that beautifully blends tradition with technical excellence, preserving the character of the property while ensuring modern performance. The undertaking began with the erection of scaffolding, providing safe and efficient access to the worksite. The existing roof covering was carefully stripped, with salvageable slates set aside for reuse, reflecting our commitment to sustainability. The loft space was then thoroughly cleaned, preparing it for the upgrades to follow.

To improve energy efficiency, we installed high-quality insulation throughout the roof structure. Ventilation and structural support were enhanced with the addition of eave vents and felt support trays, ensuring long-term durability. A layer of Vent 3 PRO breathable membrane, paired with treated battens, was applied to create a robust and weather-resistant base. Code 6 lead valleys, segmented into 1.5-meter lengths to prevent future splitting, were installed to guarantee lasting integrity.

For the roofing material, we utilized reclaimed Welsh slates, selected for their authenticity and resilience. The front elevations were adorned with 24 x 12-inch slates, fixed with copper nails for superior strength and a classic aesthetic, while the back elevation featured 18 x 9-inch slates, maintaining a cohesive yet distinct look. The gables were finished with mortared feathered edges, adding a refined traditional touch. Around the chimney stacks, Code 5 lead soakers and flashings were expertly fitted, sealed with flexible lead sealant within the brick joints to provide a reliable barrier against moisture ingress. To preserve the roof’s heritage, the original ridge tiles were reused, secured with a sand-cement mix for a seamless, time-honored finish.

Upon completion, the scaffolding was dismantled, and the job site was kept clean and orderly throughout the process—a testament to our professionalism and attention to detail.
