A Stunning New Roof Transformation: Showcasing Traditional British Craftsmanship

At Moore and Sons Roofing, we take immense pride in delivering roofing solutions that blend durability, beauty, and the timeless quality of traditional British craftsmanship. Our latest project is a shining example of this commitment, where we transformed an outdated roof into a masterpiece of functionality and aesthetic appeal. Let’s walk you through the journey of this remarkable roof replacement.

The project began with the careful removal and disposal of the old plain tile roof covering. We understand that a clean foundation is critical, so we meticulously cleared the loft space, ensuring a pristine loft space for our client. To provide superior protection and ventilation, we laid down a new Cromar Vent 3 Pro breathable membrane paired with graded battens, setting the stage for a roof built to last.

Attention to detail is at the heart of our craft, and this project was no exception. We installed GRP terrace joins with full tile and tile-and-a-half configurations, avoiding unsightly cuts for a seamless, polished look. A new Keylite window was expertly framed and fitted with plain tile flashing kits, enhancing both natural light and the roof’s cohesive design. The chimney received special care, with code 5 lead soakers and flashings applied for watertight integrity, followed by rendering to restore its structural and visual appeal.

For the roof covering, we chose Marley Acme single camber smooth red clay plain tiles, a nod to classic British roofing heritage. Opting for clay tiles over concrete offers distinct advantages that elevate both form and function. Clay tiles are renowned for their natural durability, resisting weathering and UV damage far better than concrete, which can fade and erode over time. Their rich, vibrant colour—maintained without the need for artificial coatings—ensures a timeless aesthetic that enhances a home’s character. Clay also had a more eco-friendly production process which aligns with sustainable building practices. By choosing clay, this roof not only looks stunning but promises exceptional longevity and low maintenance.

Not all local roofing companies possess the expertise to install a clay tile roof to such an exacting standard. This project demanded a deep understanding of traditional techniques, precise leadwork, and the ability to handle premium materials with finesse. From the intricate flashing around the Keylite window to the mechanically fixed hips and ridges, every element required skilled craftsmanship that only a team with years of specialised experience can deliver. At Moore and Sons Roofing, our roofers are trained in these time-honoured methods, ensuring that every project we undertake meets the highest benchmarks of quality and authenticity.

Every step of this project reflects our dedication to traditional British craftsmanship. From the precision of our tilework to the artistry of our leadwork, we honour time-tested techniques while incorporating modern materials for optimal performance. We installed hip irons and fitted Marley capped angle hips and ridges, each mechanically fixed for added security and durability. The result? A roof that’s as robust as it is beautiful, designed to protect and enhance the home for decades to come.

At Moore and Sons Roofing , we believe a roof is more than just shelter—it’s a legacy. If you’re considering a roofing project, let us bring our passion for quality and tradition to your home.
