Church Repairs - New Brighton, Wirral.

Our team recently completed a restoration project on a church roof, addressing critical repairs with a focus on durability and historical integrity. The process began with the safe securing of a cat ladder, providing stable access for our operatives to carry out the work at height. Initial efforts focused on removing old, poorly executed repairs, including the extraction of slates along the wall abutment and the removal of defective soakers and flashings, which had compromised the roof’s performance.

We reinstated the slates with precision, installing Code 5 lead soakers tailored to the structure for enhanced waterproofing. Broken slates on this elevation were carefully replaced and secured with copper straps, ensuring both strength and longevity. To further protect the abutment, Code 5 lead flashings were expertly fitted, sealed with flexible lead sealant within the brick joints to create a robust barrier against moisture ingress. Attention then turned to the parapet wall, where defective mortar was removed and replaced with a carefully selected, appropriate mortar mix for repointing, restoring structural stability and aesthetic consistency.

Upon completion, the cat ladder was safely dismantled, and the site was maintained in a clean and orderly condition throughout the project—a reflection of our commitment to professionalism, even in the most challenging environments. This restoration not only rectifies past shortcomings but also safeguards the church’s roof for years to come, preserving its architectural heritage with technical excellence.
